🗞 TL;DR - Social media platform Bluesky has gained more than 700,000 new users in the last week since the US election, largely due to North American users seeking to escape X. As a result, brands have an opportunity to start over on Bluesky with new, eager audiences.
💡 Insight - With 14.5 million users worldwide, Bluesky can definitely be a useful network to add to your social strategy. Unlike other social networks, Bluesky is decentralized, which gives users more control over their data and focuses more on genuine, authentic interactions rather than feeding an algorithm.
Some key things to know about Bluesky as a social platform: users can share text-based updates with a maximum length of 300 characters. The platform allows users to attach images to posts, but does not currently support video uploads. Recommended image sizes and formats depend on the use.
As with most social networks, brands do well on the platform by joining public conversations, providing thought-leadership driven commentary (think tips & insights), leaning into niche communities, and overall being less promotional. One unique area of opportunity with Bluesky is that brands can create a custom domain to add credibility to their presence.
