  • Google hasn’t explained why they haven’t brought it to these areas yet, but the more intense data protection and user privacy policies may be to blame. ChatGPT already had trouble in Italy, so by not releasing in these areas, Google can avoid similar headaches.

  • Takeaway: Regulation around generative AI will continue to result in delays of these popular product launches to certain geographies. That’s not to say security and privacy isn’t important, just to remember that often major subsets of the population still aren’t able to access them. Something that’s especially important if you’re serving these areas.

  • The feature is designed for people who may lose their ability to speak by creating “a synthesized voice that sounds like them” to talk with friends or family members. Users will first read a set of text prompts aloud for a total of 15 mins, then in the future, type what they want to say and have their Personal Voice read it.

  • Other new features include automatic detection mode in Magnifier, easier ways to adjust the size of text and connect hearing devices, as well as the ability to pause GIFs in Safari and Messages.

  • Takeaway: This feels like a major security concern waiting to happen… but if it helps users who need it, then perhaps it won’t be used for evil? With the influx of AI-generated audios from musicians on TikTok though, it’s tough to imagine that this will be accepted easily by lawmakers and leaders.
