Marketing’s top news, tips, & tools of the day
⚡️
Talk of the Town
Many of the bans currently prevent government employees on state-owned devices from accessing TikTok… which is bad news for government employees from tourism boards working in social media to attract visitors to their states.
60% of TikTok users say they first became interested in a destination thanks to videos on the app while 45% of millennial users have visited a place or attraction after seeing it on the app.
Takeaway: The TikTok bans don’t leave a lot of room for nuance, so if these laws make it nationwide, many businesses that rely on attracting tourist interest may struggle. Diminishing resources for government-run tourism boards hurts more than just the govt.
Elon promised to reduce the bots and inactive accounts when he joined Twitter, and the effort starts now. The purged accounts include ones with “no activity for several years” and many of these usernames will be available as a result of the move.
Takeaway: Good news for people with popular names! Bad news for people holding onto that Twitter account with no activity. Overall, it’s a move that pushes Twitter forward. But, if you’re a brand who’s parked on the platform, now might be the time to send out a quick tweet or like something before your account gets cut.

New Growth Insights
Among the key takeaways from the new research:
70% of respondents are still in an exploratory mode
19% are beginning tests & production tasks related to AI
68% agreed that the benefits of AI outweigh the risks
38% believe customer experience is the most useful application
Takeaway: ChatGPT might be the buzzy tech of the moment, but it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere soon. Many companies are taking it slow and steady, which means we can expect even more AI-related updates in the future once companies learn how to adopt the tech successfully.
Wendy’s is partnering with Google to test an AI chatbot that takes your drive-thru order
The chatbot, called “Wendy’s FreshAI,” is launching in Columbus, OH in June as a first test in an attempt to reduce long wait times. The chatbot is tailored to Wendy’s existing large language model (LLM) which includes the company’s lingo such as knowing a “milkshake” translates to a “Frosty.”
Takeaway: The potential headache of errors with this chatbot seem pretty on par with the potential headache of being misheard or having challenges with a normal drive-thru experience. But if this tech works, it could introduce a completely new fast food experience that drives the industry forward.
