💡 Today’s Insight 💡
🗞 TL;DR - With video quickly becoming the most popular way for users to consume information, simply creating and uploading them to your socials isn’t gonna cut it anymore. If you want your videos to get noticed, you’ll want to optimize them for better rankings, engagement, and visibility.
đź’ˇ Insight - Search Engine Land gave us seven best practices for optimizing your video content:
Analyze your current videos. Review any current videos you have—assess their performance and evaluate the effectiveness of the SEO strategies. Also, take a look at any comments and feedback from viewers to get insight into your audience’s preferences.
Analyze your competitors. Start with your top competitors and analyze their highest-engagement videos. Dig into the elements of the video, like titles, descriptions, video quality, and keyword usage, to uncover what makes them successful.
Refresh your keyword research. Don’t make the mistake of recycling your Google keywords and using them for YouTube. Google favors content that gets clicks, while YouTube’s algorithm focuses on engagement metrics like watch time, comments, and shares. Choose keywords that encourage viewers to watch longer and interact with your content to boost performance.
Sketch out your new content strategy. Figure out the video content that your brand’s audience would benefit the most from, whether that’s tutorials, educational videos, shorts, or something else. In general, users go for value over production quality, so make sure to emphasize authenticity over theatrics.
Tackle on-page optimizations. Remember to set aside time to refine on-page SEO elements. This includes things like the title and description, thumbnail creation, and end-screens and cards.
Build your video presence away from Google. Do your research on best practices for video across various channels and adapt your strategy accordingly. For example, on LinkedIn, videos under two minutes work well for business updates, thought leadership, and industry insights.
Lock in your KPIs. The metrics you track will depend on your marketing goals, but common metrics to look at include clicks and click-through rate, watch time, audience retention, and traffic source type.
