🚀 Today’s Deep Dive 🚀

📰 TL;DR - We’re living through a really interesting time in commerce where your product isn’t necessarily as important as how you position the product. Case in point: Erewhon Market. If you’re not familiar with the name, it’s a health food grocery store with 10 locations in the LA area.

But they’re not just selling food, they’re selling a status symbol. A luxury experience. Most known for hosting celebrities and being an influencer favorite, it’s a place where you can get $13 raw coconut milk, $135 reusable shopping bags, and a $22 smoothie including ingredients like blue spirulina, chlorophyll, sea moss, and matcha cream. Not quite your typical grocery shopping experience.

💡 Insight - It’s easy to roll your eyes at brands like Erewhon, but which other grocery brands are getting influencers to post GRWM (get ready with me) videos just to go shopping there? They’re not for everyone and they’re doing a damn good job at it.

If you’re truly looking to push the envelope and become one of these brands, you’ve got to think outside of your usual lane. How would your product be branded and marketed if it was in a completely different industry?

By treating themselves like a luxury brand (among the likes of fashion brands like Supreme and Aimé Leon Dore), Erewhon isn’t even competing with other grocery or health food stores. They’re aligning themselves with a lifestyle and image that demands luxury food. You can think it’s ridiculous, but they’re the ones sticking out in a land of Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s.
