Today’s Growth Tip
Turns out you can teach an old dog new tricks. In recent years, Major League Baseball (MLB) saw waning interest from fans with games lasting over 3 hours and lacking in action. In turn, they enacted a bunch of new rules to make the game more interesting – most notably, a pitch time limit which pushed the average length of games down 15% YoY. Attendance has since risen 6.8% YoY with ESPN viewers up 7% and TBS up 26%.
Make It Yours: What’s one of your customers’ pain points that often feels unfixable? There are tough moments in every customer journey, but oftentimes we dismiss what’s sticky for what we think is just inevitable. Changing the rules of a major baseball game feels unfixable to the outsider’s eye… but the leadership here rightly addressed the core issue, leading to increased positive fan experiences and, thus, more interest to advertisers.

Talk of the Town
Voicebox, the new generative AI tool, is positioned to help creators easily edit audio tracks, allow visually impaired people to hear written messages from friends in their voices, and enable people to speak any foreign language (well, currently only 6 languages) in their own voice. Voicebox can also edit pre-recorded audio (like removing traffic noises or dogs barking).
Takeaway: This isn’t new tech by any means, but it’s one of the first iterations of a major tech company using this type of audio generative AI. It’s a gamechanger for content creation, either in organic (like fixing a choppy interview) or in ads (for creating voiceovers).
Domino’s Pizza just unveiled Pinpoint Delivery, a new app feature that allows users to get pizza delivered just with a pin dropped on a map. The concept allows customers to get their orders “wherever their adventure takes them” without an address, such as parks or beaches.
Takeaway: Domino’s is a self-proclaimed “eCommerce company that happens to sell pizza,” so innovations like this or like their Apple CarPlay integration from earlier this year continue to push them in that direction. And it’s a smart move. By thinking outside industry norms, you can easily start to see a road to standing apart from the competition.
