📰 TL;DR: Recently, experts have been debating the deeper shockwaves the SAG-AFTRA and Writers Guild strikes could have on business. The dual actor and writer strikes obviously have the immediate impact of shutting down Hollywood TV and film productions… but what about advertising?

We’re not just talking your old school TV ads, all ads from streaming to influencer partnerships could be affected from this. As part of the strike rules, the union’s 160k members are prohibited from anything deemed a “publicity service” – that includes podcast appearances, social media, and personal appearances.

Experts believe that streaming services will keep the engine going for awhile with their nearly never-ending libraries of content, but no one knows when the parties will reach an agreement for the strike to end. It’s about to be an interesting time in the television landscape, that’s for sure.

💡 Insight: Diversify your advertising. Diversify your advertising. Oh, did we mention to diversify your advertising?

The exciting thing about ads and marketing is that it’s always living and breathing… but that also means anything can break apart overnight (2020, anyone?)

If you’re advertising on Connected TV, network TV, or you rely on film/TV personalities to advertise, you should absolutely be reevaluating your next few months. And even if you’re not, let this be a lesson in how fragile our efforts can be.

Don’t let the collapse of one sector or company be the collapse of yours. Plan for the worst and be happy if you don’t need to go that route. And for everyone’s sake, let’s hope this all gets resolved real soon.
