💡 Today’s Insight 💡
🗞 TL;DR - Establishing yourself as an authority in your niche can be a game-change for growing your business. But how do you start growing a following and positioning yourself as a trusted source of information? Content pillars. Search Engine Land summarized why this strategic approach is the way to go and how you can start coming up with your own.
💡 Insight - First, what are content pillars? They’re an organizational structure that covers all aspects of a particular topic to provide a 360-degree understanding of the subject. For example, if you’re an eCommerce retailer selling camping gear, you might benefit from creating content that provides context to each product’s use case – such as “camping gear for beginners” or “camping gear for cold weather.”
You can start creating your pillars based on keyword research, like with Semrush’s Keyword Strategy Builder. Start by entering your ideal content keywords into the builder and the tool will generate a helpful topic overview with different sub-pillars and connected content you could write about.
Once you publish this content, make sure you have an internal linking strategy set up that benefits both users and SEO purposes. This means linking all of your sub-pillar pages to the relevant pillar pages and topics they should be associated with. This allows your content to not only generate more traffic to supporting content but also provide valuable information to cement yourself as a thought leader.
