🚀 Today’s Deep Dive 🚀

📰 TL;DR - If you’re looking for news, where do you go? Do you turn on your TV or wait for the next morning’s paper? Do you jump onto Facebook or search Twitter? Or maybe you just scroll through your TikTok FYP and see a face that looks like yours telling you the latest and greatest.

Gen Z prefers the latter method, so much so that they’re turning to influencers and popular organizational pages to learn about things that are going on. For example, the Instagram page turned media company “Sh*t You Should Care About” has raked in over 4M IG followers with their simplified summaries of the world’s events geared towards a younger audience.

💡 Insight - Gone are the days of sending out a press release to the top journalists at every tech publication. You’ve got to understand content creation to understand what makes the news. Of course, you can keep with the old-school tactics, but with almost ¼ of US adults under 30 saying they regularly get their news from TikTok… you might want to readjust.

You don’t have to reinvent the wheel. Check out organizations like Sh*t You Should Care About, Deuxmoi, or Under The Desk News to see how people are using classic news reporting methods through a new approach.

Get your social media and content teams involved. Approach modern news orgs with partnerships and collaborations. Something that feels organic and serendipitous to both orgs will make for a natural PR campaign.
