🗞 TL;DR - New research has found that influencer marketing actually yields better results when companies work with smaller accounts rather than ones with a higher number of followers. Nano influencers – those with 10,000 followers or less – yield an average return of more than $1000 on a $50 investment. Macro influencers – those with more than 100,000 followers – command an average investment of over $1000, but deliver only $6000.

💡 Insight - Here’s what the study’s lead researcher suggests on how to get the best results from influencer campaigns:

Determine your goals before choosing an influencer. Do you want to generate awareness or more sales? Which influencers you work with, the type of content they produce, and how you foster the relationship can be greatly changed depending on your end goal.

Collect performance data at the point of purchase. You should always be able to directly tie a sponsored post to purchases, either through voucher codes, tracking links, or unique QR codes/phone numbers. Don’t expect influencers to provide you with a ton of data.

Use influencer marketing platforms to outsource management. Managing influencer campaigns takes a lot of time and energy, which can be especially hard for small teams.
