💡 Today’s Insight 💡

🗞 TL;DR - As performance and growth marketers, we know that the last year or so has been brutal for platform and algorithmic changes. Between Google’s (not-so) Helpful Content Update last September and Meta increasingly driving away referral traffic, it can feel like there’s no way to crack the code. But according to Adweek and referral experts, Reddit might be the next platform to take seriously.

💡 Insight - According to data from Semrush from August 2023 - April 2024, Reddit readership nearly tripled, rising from 132 million visitors to 346 million monthly visitors. At the same time, social referrals from Facebook have declined 58% since 2018. These numbers are too big to ignore.

As a result, news publishers have already started to launch new Reddit accounts and redirect their content efforts towards the 20-year-old platform. Brands may benefit from taking note and following suit. Turning a new presence on a platform into a substantial source of traffic is a long game and may take multiple years of consistent effort.

Despite the slow growth of pivoting to a new platform, many publishers are already seeing the benefit, with The Washington Post even having Reddit traffic overtake traffic from Instagram, which has never happened to the brand before. Brands can lean into Reddit’s new suite of ad and creator tools to maximize their presence on the platform. One of the most useful for brands is Reddit Pro, a free dashboard displaying analytics on how users are engaging with your brand’s content – an easy way to dip your toe into a new, potentially experimental venue.
