Today’s Insight

📰 TL;DR - Google’s expanding its AR shopping feature to ads and Shopping. The feature now allows users to virtually wear beauty products, such as different hair dyes and foundation shades, before purchasing. Major brands like L’Oréal and Revlon are the first to work with Google on the feature.

💡 Insight - AR and AI features are having a moment. But just because they’re buzzy doesn’t mean simply adding them to your product will be a gamechanger.

Like anything in product development or marketing, you’ve got to be unique and original in your approach. In these early days of AR, people need to know your use case is actually, well, useful. Otherwise, what’s the point in using it over a traditional product?

Think of a problem or sore spot in your product. Could AR help solve that problem? Some examples: Home products can benefit from users seeing them in their space (especially if the product is big and hard to envision, like furniture). Clothing can provide users with a try-at-home experience to compete with brick-and-mortar retail stores. Don’t be lazy and implement AR or AI just to say you have it. Think outside the box.
