Today’s Insight

📰 TL;DR - No matter how much X wants to boast about its success, the numbers don’t lie: platform usage has declined on all fronts across web & mobile.

According to Similarweb, X’s global web traffic was down 14% YoY in September with U.S. traffic down 19% and U.S. mobile performance down 17.8%. It’s not all bad though… traffic to Elon Musk’s profile was up 96%.

💡 Insight - Reconsider where X falls in your marketing mix. Is it a platform you can stand to lose? Or should you double down on it? Just because people are leaving the platform doesn’t mean you automatically should.

If your audience is still there and still engaging, then consider what it would look like to dig your heels in. Focus on what that niche audience wants. Attract those left behind if your competitors have left. Invest in X Premium and try out the new services offered in the membership.

But if X feels like an inevitable dead end for your advertising and content strategy, now seems like the time to call it quits. Reallocate your resources towards platforms that work for you. Explore Threads, Bluesky, or Mastodon as other short-form alternatives. Listen to where your audience wants you to be.
