Amazon may be the next video streaming service to include an ad-supported tier to their subscription plans. This follows suit of popular streaming competitors who have been introducing similar ad-supported plans to their services in order to increase revenue and subscribers.
Takeaway: Amazon is only looking to match its rivals, already having added the NFL subscription to their existing plan. As more streaming services begin offering ad-supported content, the ecosystem for placements grows to the benefit of advertisers.
First announced in March, TikTok launched a feature for creators to put exclusive content behind a paywall. Now, the platform is expanding this capability to even more creators which lets them upload 20-minute videos and charge between $1 and $190.
Takeaway: Allowing creators to make money and longer content could see a shift in what kind of videos the everyday TikTok scroller has access to. It will allow creators to grow a close fan base, similar to OnlyFans or Patreon. Although there’s been some controversy in the past with TikTok’s creator fund, this new feature could shift the way influencers use long-form video.
