  • As part of the updates to WhatsApp Business, companies will be able to send personalized messages to users and generate ads without needing a Facebook account. Companies will also be able to create ads for Facebook and Instagram from within the app. The updates will come at a cost for business users but the cost is still unknown.

  • Takeaway: WhatsApp’s global dominance is a huge opportunity for businesses and now with the ability to send personalized messages (like customized sales or reminders), it’s become an even more attractive opportunity.

  • New research from Adalytics found that Google placed ads in small, muted, automatically-played videos on sites that don’t meet Google’s standards for monetization, among other violations. The ads in question are run through the Google Video Partners program. The research observed campaigns from more than 1.1k brands with billions of ad impressions between 2020 and 2023.

  • Takeaway: If this turns out to be true, Google’s going to have a massive refund on its hands. Regardless, they have to answer to concerned ad buyers who are viewing this as a huge breach of trust. With Google and YouTube owning a major stake in video ad spending, it’s mistakes like this that might change the course for ad buyers.
