📰 TL;DR: If you’ve ever spent more than 5 minutes on Etsy, you’ve probably – perhaps unknowingly – seen a Cricut creation. Though the brand isn’t well-known amongst the zeitgeist of major brands, it has a chokehold on the crafting community with its popular at-home cutting machines. The devices allow designers, small business owners, artists, or internet culture aficionados to craft their own decals, t-shirt designs, cards, and more with a simple internet program and printing materials.

The success of the machines is in huge part to Etsy and other small business retailers using the product, so they’re going bigger. The company just announced Cricut Venture, their new “large-format” cutting machine to handle bigger projects in all ways possible – optimized for size and speed. The new machine will be available starting July 25 (right in time for back to school crafting season) and runs $1k for the machine only.

💡 Insight: Do you want to build a product to be consumed by the masses or deeply loved by a smaller yet passionate audience? Cricut was literally built on the idea of empowering niche communities of crafters and artists to truly own their own work.

The company identified a pain point – outsourcing material cutting and printing – and offered a solution that empowered and supported their consumers. And now, their consumers are making money from their machines.

Cricut now dominates the crafting market with their innovative sales approach and unique product offering. By offering something no one else was bold enough to offer, they’re the leader of the pack in a small yet powerful segment. Don’t underestimate the power of niche, dedicated communities.
