It’s a small detail that may seem frivolous, but it’s actually critical for establishing your brand presence. Sprout Social broke down everything you need to know to make an impactful bio, offering over 80 examples for inspiration.

💡 Insight - Here are the key tips for crafting those 180 characters:

  1. Know your goal. Make sure you have a clear sense of direction when writing your bio, as this will help you narrow down what to say. Some use this space to explain what their business does, while others choose to promote their latest products or offers.

  2. Optimize for search. Instagram will show your profile in relevant searches based on the keywords you use. Optimizing your bio copy through keyword and audience research will improve search visibility.

  3. Make it easy to read. Since this is a place that conveys what your business does or offers, it’s critical that your bio is easy to read and understand.

  4. Show your brand personality. Use the same language and tone of voice that your brand uses to craft your bio copy. Inserting a joke, emoji, or heartfelt message is a great way for your audience to get a taste of who you are.

  5. Include relevant hashtags and profile links. Instagram lets you add clickable hashtags and profile links in your bio, which you can use to direct customers to your other Instagram handles or to relevant, tagged content.
