📰 TL;DR: Popular influencer and YouTuber MrBeast (aka Jimmy Donaldson) has taken on worldwide fame and branched out into various business pursuits. One of the most notable (and now infamous) being a branded line of fast food delivery known as MrBeast Burger.
MrBeast partnered with Virtual Dining Concepts, a food service company helming “ghost kitchens” – a producer of MrBeast Burger with no physical presence in which food is made out of other existing restaurants. He’s now suing VDC over their quality control which led to frequent negative reports from customers (think raw burgers) that were so consistently bad, it damaged his reputation.
💡 Insight: Outsourcing can be beneficial… but you’ve got to consider the risks. It makes a lot of sense that an influencer like MrBeast would outsource food creation to a company that knows how to operate it at scale. Brand is his thing, food logistics should’ve been VDC’s thing.
But when you outsource and delegate work out, you’ve got to remember: it’s your brand on the line if anything goes wrong. You’ve got to be willing to take the fall if one part of the partnership doesn’t pull their own weight.
In this case, MrBeast is such a public figure that people are bound to tag him in their customer service woes. But it could happen to any of us and any of our brands. If you’re in a fortunate enough position to have such a success, do your homework and aim to partner with businesses that uphold your brand’s values. After all, the consumer’s mostly judging you.
