🗞 TL;DR - Be honest: when was the last time you evaluated which Google Search Console metrics you were monitoring? If you’re a noob to this or just need a good reset, Search Engine Land pulled together a strong list of key metrics to track in the platform monthly.
💡 Insight - Here are the key SEO metrics you should be looking at monthly:
Pages Indexed & Pages Not Indexed - this is how you’ll know whether or not your content is making it to the SERPs. Look for fluctuations over time and try to figure out why pages that aren’t indexed are performing that way.
Videos Indexed & Videos Not Indexed - same concept! The most common culprit is usually that the video isn’t in the main content of the page or Google can’t determine video position or size.
XML Sitemap Errors - make sure that each XML sitemap says “success” on the report. If you’re in enterprise, this is super important because any flitches can prevent new URLs from being crawled.
Mobile Core Web Vitals - this is the most important one for SEO! Make sure to check: mobile good URLs, mobile poor URLs, and mobile needs improvement URLs.
Desktop Core Web Vitals - exactly the same as mobile, and the same metrics to check. Might also be interesting to see if there are any correlations between desktop and mobile vitals.
Rich Results from Schema - this can enhance your organic listings with special features including breadcrumb links, product information, and more.
