🗞 TL;DR - New social media trend just dropped. Businesses all across the board – from zoos to museums to grocery store chains – are joining in the trend of having their Gen Z staff write the script for their next TikTok video. The trend typically involves older staff dropping young lingo like ‘rizz’ and ‘bussin’ in a straight-faced delivery.

💡 Insight - More than 6 million people have watched one of the Gen Z script videos on TikTok from UK’s Northumberland zoo, featuring the ‘very demure’ Ralph the raccoon and the ‘brat’ bats. Part of the charm is in the deadpan delivery from the zoo’s Boomer employees – people who typically don’t frequent Gen Z lingo. It’s truly a performance, which lends itself well to a platform like TikTok that prioritizes entertaining content.

The other interesting thing about this trend is that it’s emerged with organizations and brands that aren’t typically centered around trend-chasing. That’s what makes it even more successful. It’s the classic surprise and delight. Audiences aren’t expecting content like this to come from these companies, so it’s extra entertaining when it does. So, if it feels like it’s not the right fit for your brand, maybe it’s exactly the right fit.

Is this a bit of a cheap trend? Yeah. But does it seem to work? Well, over 6 million views sounds like it would. If you’re looking to have a bit of fun with your social media, this might be a great trend to start with.
