🗞 TL;DR - I hate to be the one to break it to you, but SEO has evolved quite a bit since the old school books were written. Search Engine Land identified five key SEO content pitfalls you could be making that could be hurting your brand’s traffic more than helping.
💡 Insight - Here are the SEO pitfalls to avoid if you want to regain lost traffic:
Writing blog posts based on keyword search volume - Instead, write content that solves a keyword phrase, question, or topic and focuses on what your customers are asking. Create content that users need and you’ll create a great UX with valuable resources.
Publishing content in bulk instead of prioritizing quality - Publishing a ton of low-quality articles a day quickly leads to a shortage of topics and hurts your site’s reputation with search engines. Focus on quality over quantity.
Focusing on word count instead of value - Contrary to popular belief, there is no minimum or maximum word count for SEO. Only write as much as you need to, no need for unnecessary fluff.
Turning every header into a question - Some questions are useful, but others are better as statements, don’t force it!
Publishing every single day or week - If there’s nothing new to write about, you don’t need to publish new content. Instead, work on refreshing and improving existing content.
