TOGETHER WITH VENDRY

🤯 Why I’ve vowed to never run a marketing agency search again!

I’ve hired dozens of marketing agencies, both as a fractional CMO for my coaching clients and for my own companies. The process always sucks! They won’t let us do proper vetting, we have to spend hours listening to the same pitches over and over again, and timing is never on our side.

Well, I recently discovered Vendry. They conduct the entire agency search for you from start to finish, they also:

1. Intro you to top performing agencies in your industry

2. Gather and vet proposals on your behalf

3. Save you 20+ hours on “get to know you calls”

Oh, did I mention Vendry is free?! They only make money from their vetted agency partners if you end up hiring them, so they are incentivized to find you the perfect match. I can’t believe I hadn’t heard of this before!

TODAY’S DEEP DIVE
A bunch of Amazon Prime boxes with sirens and simuated urgency icons around them.

📰 TL;DR: Put plainly, sales simply exist to create urgency for a customer to make a purchase. Prime Day has been Amazon’s faux holiday to create excitement and avoid the major competition on traditional sales days like Black Friday, Cyber Monday, or Boxing Day. But as marketers and leaders, we have to toe a fine line between creating urgency and straight out deceiving customers.

That’s what consumers are arguing Amazon and its distributors are doing during Prime Day – disguising price markups as “great deals” to push customers to buy. Some went as far as to screenshot items from their cart pre-Prime Day and on the sales day, just to show how the normal price was being paraded around as a Prime Day discount.

💡 Insight: You’ve got to be honest with your customers. Any moment of sneaky, trickster behavior and you’ve already eroded the trust with your audience. Why should they trust you in the future?

Especially in our deeply online world where people are observant and connected, you’ve got to provide an honest, positive experience. Otherwise, risk getting caught and plastered all over Twitter as a case of what not to do.

Customers aren’t always looking for a massive deal. They’re looking not to get taken advantage of. If you’re not able to give the major deals you see plastered all over sales holidays, the least you can give your customers is honesty and integrity. Create excitement and urgency, sure – but don’t be the next brand people are calling a scam.
