💡 Today’s Insight 💡

🗞 TL;DR - According to Bazaarvoice’s new Shopper Experience Index, which surveyed over 8,000 consumers from across seven countries, YouTube and Facebook are the most popular social media platforms for product discovery and research – used twice as frequently than TikTok. Dive into more takeaways from the study below.

💡 Insight - Surprisingly, TikTok is the fourth most used social media platform for product research and discovery across all demographics (25%), even behind Instagram (41%).

When looking at younger audiences, Instagram’s popularity as a discovery tool increases, favored by 69% of Gen Z, followed by TikTok at 50%.

Social media is also increasingly growing as a platform for making purchases with the amount of shoppers completing the purchase state on a social media platform increasing 82% from 2021 to 2024. And it’s not just for reaching younger generations as social media purchase frequency remains relatively consistent across all generations.

Still, social media is far from being the primary platform for consumers beginning their shopping journey at 8%. Online searches (excluding social media) are most popular across all generations of shoppers (32%) followed by online retailers or marketplaces (29%) and physical stores (14%).

📉 Downloads of social app Rednote plummeted 91% since TikTok was relisted on the app store. The app, which is China’s version of Instagram, boomed in US popularity when TikTok’s potential ban approached.

🗑️ Google Ads will automatically remove parked domain placements. Starting March 19, the Search Partner Network will automatically opt all accounts out of serving ads on parked domains, aka websites that are registered but not actively developed.
