🤷🏻‍♀️ Should You Be Prioritizing Search Or Social?
đź“° TL;DR - Social Media Today just dropped an interesting infographic that will be super useful for early-stage Founders & Marketers. It breaks down the difference between focusing your marketing efforts on search versus social, painting them as completely different options.
đź’ˇ Insight - Our favorite takeaways:
Audience Psychology - People don’t go to Google (or any other search engine) to browse things. They go there with a specific plan or goal of finding some piece of information or product. If your audience tends to know exactly what they are looking for, search is the way to go but if your product is more of an impulse purchase, social is better.
Running Ads - Investing in search ads means that you have no access to target based on their attributes but can target exactly what they are thinking or searching for. Running ads on social platforms means you can target everything from their age to where they go on vacation but you can’t target based on what they are looking for or thinking.
Ceilings - Search marketing has a finite demand so the ceiling of how many people you can reach is much lower than the potential virality of investing time or money into social marketing.
đź‘€ Reports Show Facebook Usage Is Way Up
đź“° TL;DR - Despite countless articles in the last year declaring the death of Facebook and saying people are spending way less time on the platform, a recent report from The WSJ found that time spent on Facebook was up big time in Q4 worldwide. The report credits Facebook Reels as the leading indicator keeping people on the platform longer.
💡 Insight - The report says that Facebook Reels consumption is up 20% which isn’t completely surprising given that they have really baked them into the main feed on mobile but… As marketers, we should be looking at two opportunities:
Making sure every time we post IG Reels, we check the box to also post them to Facebook ads
Breaking down our Facebook Ads campaign to show placements and see if we are getting any good results (CPM, ROAS, or CPCs) from Facebook Reels ads placements… this could be a goldmine!

📰 TL;DR - Instagram is rolling out its DM’s Inbox “Notes” feature to more regions as they push to get its users to send more DMs. If you live in the US and you open up IG, when you navigate to your DMs inbox, you will notice the profile pictures of some of your friends with little sayings next to them. That is the notes feature they are rolling out to a lot more regions…
💡 Insight - Although it’s not a “drastically gonna move the needle” marketing opportunity, when we posted a note from Marketing Max’s Instagram account last week with a question, we get way more responses than a normal story with a question… So get clever and think of a few ways you can use this new feature! Perhaps it’s getting product feedback? Generating leads?
