Monday's news, tips, & tools you need to know

🎓️ Universities Are Teaching Tik Tok Courses

đź“° TL;DR - Emory University in Atlanta has a content marketing course in its Goizueta Business School. This semester the professor of the course introduced a new assignment, go viral on Tik Tok and get an A. Seriously!

💡Insight - We LOVE seeing this and believe more colleges should do this. However, this just means we have even more accounts competing for Tik Tok users’ eyeballs so we gotta continue to step up our creativity and uniqueness if we want to have a chance of going viral and continuing to perform on Tik Tok.

🔋 Calling A Marketing Blitzing On Tesla?

đź“° TL;DR - Seemingly every major legacy car brand will have an ad in the big game this coming Sunday promoting their all-electric vehicle. It took ~10 years of engineering for all of these car brands to catch up to Tesla’s annual output of electric vehicles and now that they have plenty more inventory, countless signs are pointing to an all-out EV marketing blitz in the coming years.

💡Insight - Two interesting insights here… 1. This is an important reminder of first mover advantage! Tesla will always be regarded as the first and now they can always say they pioneered the trend 2. Tesla might have to actually invest more in marketing if it doesn’t wanna get overshadowed by the insane amount of money these car brands are about to throw at ads.

🥷🏻 Meta Stealing From Elon Musk?

đź“° TL;DR - Mobile developer Allesandro Paulluzi found a new line in Facebook’s codebase indicating that Facebook might soon be charging for blue checkmark verification. Seems like Elon isn’t totally crazy after all?

đź’ˇInsight - We launched this newsletter after Twitter introduced the apid checkmark so we never had a chance to share our take on out. So here it is: we are big fans of the blue checkmark because it acts as a signal to the greater community that you take the platform seriously. It will end up being the same for Facebook or any other platform that introduces paid blue check marks!

🤖 Is Email Warm-Up Dead?

đź“° TL;DR - Anyone who sends lots of cold emails knows how important warming up domains and inboxes are. It’s essentially the process of simulating regular activity inside of a new email so that the email gods recognize the new email account as a regular person instead of someone that’s just “spamming” a bunch of accounts they don’t already know.

Well, popular email warmup tools like GMass are shutting down left and right because Google is shutting down access to these tools via Google’s API.

💡Insight - There are some tools that use IMAP-based methods that will still be fully functional… However, it seems Google is not happy at the idea of people warming up their inboxes to trick the email gods. We bet this is not the first thing Google will do to try and curb the famous cold email strategy so be careful when sending these cold emails out!

🙏🏼 Twitter Is Courting Creators

đź“° TL;DR - It seems Twitter is joining Instagram, YouTube, & Tik Tok in it’s chase to get more creators creating on their respective platforms. Elon tweeted this past weekend that subscribers to Twitter Blue are now eligible to get a revenue share for the ads placed in their tweets replies. We can tell you there is no “add your bank account” button here inside of @MarketingMax’s account yet but we hope it’s coming!

💡Insight - All of these social platforms are just billboard businesses. The more time people spend on the platform the more billboards they can sell. So it’s no surprise that Twitter is entering the ring alongside Instagram, YouTube, & Tik Tok. What does it really mean for us marketers though? There will likely be more & more time spent on Twitter so create an account for your business (not just your personal brand), start tweeting, and run Twitter ads!
