šŸ—“ļø LinkedIn Adds Newsletter Scheduling & More

šŸ“° TL;DR - In a wild turn of events, LinkedIn actually released new features in response to user requests. Theyā€™ve added the capacity to schedule newsletters and articles natively on the platform, so you no longer have to wait until the perfect moment to post your latest thought leadership piece. Theyā€™ve also recently added SEO titles for newsletters and articles, as well as improving subscription options to streamline newsletter sign-ups.

On the user side, theyā€™ve made an effort to make user profiles more visually appealing with the inclusion of images and videos in the Activity section. Start planning your perfect LinkedIn Activity aesthetic now.

šŸ’” Insight - Itā€™s great to see that LinkedIn is implementing useful features instead of trying to reinvent the wheel (looking at you, Twitter Blue). But in order to keep these changes around, we as users and business owners need to use them. The ability to schedule is particularly exciting as it allows experts and leadership to truly take a stab at generating regular content. Spend as long as you need writing your next opus (or 2 or 3ā€¦), schedule away, and let the engagement roll in.

šŸ“ˆ Take Your Emailā€™s Average Open Rate, Now Multiply it By 3

There are many possible reasons your emails arenā€™t delivered and opened:

  • Your subscribers arenā€™t engaged.

  • Your IP reputation.

  • Your sender score.

But the good news is, Inbox Mailers created a new technology that fixes these problems all at once, so your emails actually get delivered. Their new tech can tell you when your users are actively in their inboxā€¦ And uses that data to get them to open your emails.

It has nothing to do with your copy. Or the relationship with your list. Yes, this helps even if itā€™s a disengaged list.

Imagine what revenue would look like if you improved your open rate by as much as 300% šŸ¤Æ

šŸ¤‘ Walmart Generated $2.7bn in Ad Sales

šŸ“° TL;DR - Walmartā€™s advertising initiatives, where brands can pay to promote their products to Walmart customers, reached $2.7bn with global ad operations up 30% in 2022. While many brands pulled back on spending, the companyā€™s U.S. ad division Walmart Connect grew 41% YOY in FY22 Q4. The staggering numbers suggest that Walmart and other retail companies may set their sights on further ad sales expansion in 2023.

šŸ’” Insight - As retail companies like Walmart and Amazon continue to expand their ad sales, one thing is clear: ad marketers should always be keeping their eyes open for opportunities. The market is constantly changing. Gone are the days of setting up Google Ads to run in perpetuity. Always be looking for the next new channel or risk getting left behind.

šŸŽ§ YouTube Music Podcasts Is Coming

šŸ“° TL;DR - Streaming app Youtube Music announced plans to add podcasts soon with dedicated support. The platform will allow free ad-supported background listening to podcasts, offer specialized app tools, and include a podcast badge to designate audio-first shows. YouTube hit 80M subscribers in 2022 for both Music and Premium streaming services, still falling below Spotify and Apple Music. YouTube also isnā€™t currently looking to add exclusive podcasts or license their own original shows.

šŸ’” Insight - Itā€™s not too surprising that YouTube is trying to venture into the podcasting space given that their streaming app competitors are all doing the same. Plus with their prime spot as a video streaming platform, itā€™s a natural extension for many podcasts that also record video (for example, Joe Rogan or Call Her Daddy). But itā€™s already a competitive market between Spotify and Apple, and YouTube has a habit of following the lead of others (for example, YouTube Shorts is their knockoff TikTok).

Time will tell if YouTube Music+Podcasts actually gains steam, but itā€™ll be an interesting lesson in whether following the leader really pays off or falls flat.

šŸ™Œ Instagram Creators Can Claim Inactive Usernames

šŸ“° TL;DR - Instagram is slowly rolling out the feature for Instagram Creators to submit a request to claim inactive usernames. Big news for anyone with a common name like Max! Waitā€¦

šŸ’” Insight - This is our chance to all grab that perfect handle weā€™ve been wanting for ourselves or our businesses. You know, the one you wish you grabbed in 2010 but couldā€™ve never anticipated so it sits grey with no posts or profile photo. Itā€™s almost yours! Whenever IG decides to roll it out to all creators.

It might not be an obvious switch for your bizā€¦ maybe youā€™ve got your handle plastered on a mural wall in NYC and 50 million other areas. Maybe youā€™re known for your unique, inventive username. But if youā€™ve been spending years trying to maintain brand consistency and your IG username is the only outlierā€¦ might be time to switch.
