💡 Today’s Insight 💡
🗞 TL;DR - According to Sprout Social’s 2024 Influencer Marketing Report, 30% of consumers trust influencers more than they did six months ago. At the same time, there’s a growing distrust of news media. So, should you redirect your PR efforts toward influencer marketing? We’ve summarized Sprout’s advice to help you decide how to proceed.
💡 Insight - In terms of the major shift toward influencer marketing from PR, Sprout’s VP of Brand and Social says, “People trust people, and they want to be entertained and educated. Whether it’s humor, fashion, fitness or sports, people are more likely to seek out influencers than brands or celebrities. This is a sign the media has become democratized.” It’s actually a good sign – the media landscape is becoming more diverse, with audiences consuming the content of creators, not just journalists.
Influencer marketing and PR both share the goal of generating brand awareness. Both approaches work best in tandem and hinge on the same vital driver: brand storytelling. You need to figure out the story that your brand is telling to be able to let any avenue amplify it – whether that’s an influencer or a journalist.
If you’re going to work on PR and influencer marketing in tandem, make sure to craft consistent messages across channels. You want your brand to be cohesive across channels and reinforce your overall narrative. At the end of the day, both avenues can help you get your story out quick – but influencer marketing can go the extra mile by humanizing your brand story.
