💡 Today’s Insight 💡

🗞 TL;DR - Business Insider’s Katie Notopoulos conducted a social experiment recently where she posted a range of controversial queries on Threads intentionally to bait users into responding. Turns out, it actually kinda worked. Should you work it into your strategy? Well, that’s less clear…

💡 Insight - The main finding from Notopoulos’ experiment was that posts with many comments tend to be more heavily weighted by the algorithm when it comes to what shows up in feeds – more than re-shares or likes. Threads seems to be incentivizing discussion, so brands take note: ensure your content is open to generating discussion (not necessarily discourse).

Rage bait may actually be why fewer people are sharing their thoughts online now, with fears of being made the main character on timelines (not a good thing) or being canceled by audiences. If you can generate conversation without inciting negativity, then you’ve won the jackpot.

Lastly, it may be that Meta is prioritizing conversation for its own interests: its generative AI models need human inputs to learn. The best fodder for that is often human-generated conversations, questions, and answers. So, when in doubt, it all comes back to AI SEO and ensuring that the content you’re putting out is optimized for these chatbots to learn about your brand.
