💡 Today’s Insight 💡
🗞 TL;DR - Watch out ad buyers, Google’s changing how PMax and Standard Shopping campaigns compete. You’ll have to adjust your strategies during this holiday season, but we’ve got the synopsis of Search Engine Land’s expert tips below on why you should care & what to do about it.
💡 Insight - Here’s what’s happening: Performance Max will no longer automatically trump Standard Shopping campaigns, and Highest Ad Rank will now determine which ad serves for overlapping campaigns. This update, which brings the campaigns in line with other campaign types’ behavior, could significantly affect campaign strategies and performance during a vital time of the year.
And in case you’re someone who needs numbers to understand the impact, Performance Max drove 17% higher ROAS than AI-powered social campaigns during Q4 2023 holiday peak, according to TransUnion.
Here’s what you should do to prepare for this change:
Stay up-to-date on how advertisers adjust budgets and targets in response
Keep an eye out for the impact on your campaign management strategies
Adjust your budgets and targets as needed
Ensure PMax campaigns follow the fundamentals (i.e. URL expansion, strong asset groups, and quality creatives/video)
