💡 Today’s Insight 💡
🗞 TL;DR - Instagram is close to watching a new WhatsApp sticker for Instagram Stories. The sticker, which would show up alongside other options like location/mention/music/etc., is intended to help brands drive more DM connections with users through the messaging app.
💡 Insight - DM and WhatsApp connections are growing increasingly popular with consumers in most regions. In some ways, it’s because WhatsApp has finally started to gain popularity in the U.S. after having strong success across Europe and South America.
In other ways, users are simply more drawn to direct connection these days. Users want to be able to connect directly with brands – not just passively like content. Users have become less performative with their social media, opting to share updates with smaller groups of friends and followers. It’s the kind of brand content that seems to resonate too – content that speaks directly to a smaller, niche audience.
And even when users share or like content, they’re doing it in private. Instagram’s chief Adam Mosseri has said many times that people now share a lot more in DMs and Stories than to their main feeds. If that’s not enough for you to care about fostering more direct connections with your audience, Meta has confirmed that “Click-to-Message” ads have become a big success for brands, and this new WhatsApp connection is basically a free version of the feature.
