Marketing’s top news, tips, & tools of the day

⚡️
Talk of the Town

  • A new study from The Influencer Marketing Factory polled creators on their current social media habits, which saw the shocking switch of the Meta-led platforms. With the increased prioritization of Reels content and an array of monetization tools, creators have revisited Facebook to diversify their audience and increase their income.

  • Takeaway: Don’t give up on Facebook! And if you’re investing in influencer marketing, now might be the time to add FB assets to your campaign brief.

  • Governor Greg Gianforte signed a bill on Wednesday with the most extreme prohibition of the app in the nation. The bill is expected to be challenged in court, but if it sticks it’ll take effect on January 1, 2024. Why is being banned? The Governor cited concerns of the company’s ownership by China’s ByteDance.

  • Takeaway: This is the furthest we’ve seen a ban taken in the U.S. so far. In the immediate term, if the ban sustains a potential challenge, it won’t go into effect until January - so you’ve still got time to pivot content if you’re a business operating in Montana.

New Growth Insights

  • This is the second consecutive year of the month-long effort which, ironically enough, has enhanced engagements with the outdoor retail brand. Post impressions on Instagram topped 8.5M midway through May, a 95% increase YoY for the brand.

  • Takeaway: Sure, being on social media is important for a company, but the most important lesson here is being strategic with your brand social platforms. People love a flashy statement, so this commitment to their mission of being more outdoorsy and prioritizing personal time is a win-win.

  • The study, which focuses on Twitter engagement pre and post Elon Musk takeover, shows some interesting stats including:

    • 6 in 10 Americans say they’ve taken a break from the platform for several weeks or more in the past 12 months

    • Women are more likely than men to say they’ve taken a break

    • 67% of Black users are more likely to say they’ve taken a break

    • 51% of Republican men are most likely to say they’ll use the platform a year from now

  • Takeaway: The next year will definitely be a big turning point for Twitter. While it’s still a useful platform and everyone has their own personal choices, it’s important to watch the trends of where your audience is to ensure you’re spending your resources efficiently.
