💡 Today’s Insight 💡

🗞 TL;DR - We don’t usually get a lot of clarity on what social networks prioritize on their algorithms. But lately, we’ve gotten a lot of… something from Instagram on how their algorithms supposedly work. Naturally, people have put a lot of stake in these reports, but Instagram is now clarifying themselves once again on their advice to help your posts perform well.

💡 Insight - A few weeks ago, Instagram noted that posting Reels longer than 90 seconds can hurt your reach – essentially warning against posting long Reels.

Instagram’s clarification: they won’t recommend Reels that are over 90 seconds long in discovery places like the Reels tab. That said, you may still find value in posting longer reels to enhance engagement with your current audience.

Last week, Instagram published a video explaining that asking your audience to comment with a single word to increase engagement could negatively impact your post’s reach due to anti-spam efforts.

Instagram’s clarification: they won’t recommend your content if it explicitly asks for engagement (aka shares, comments, tags, or other actions). But if you’re using single-word responses as a trigger alongside third-party automation tools, like ManyChat, you can still use these. (Yet there’s no clarification on how IG’s system will decipher between these two use cases.)
