Marketing’s top news, tips, & tools of the day

Talk of the Town
Twitter’s lawyer wrote a letter to Meta accusing the company of “systemic and unlawful misappropriation of trade secrets” after the launch of Meta’s new Threads app claiming the company brought on former Twitter employees to build a similar app (without concrete examples). Meta’s response? “That’s just not a thing.”
Takeaway: Understandably, Elon Musk & Co. must be a bit flustered and upset about the immediate celebration of Threads, especially with the app onboarding over 30M users in less than 24 hrs. Time will tell how Twitter decides to fight off the new app… meanwhile, we’ll all be partying over on Threads ✌️
According to a recent privacy policy update to Google, the company “reserves the right to scape just about everything you post online to build its AI tools.” That means if you publish something online, you should assume a robot’s going to read it and could use it for a chatbot answer.
Takeaway: Knowing that AI chatbots can now utilize the power of search engines and the internet to strengthen their responses, this shouldn’t be that shocking. But it makes for a pretty grabby headline that will cause concerns among the not-really-online population. Keeping your internet footprint up to date and accurate has never been more important.

Today’s Growth Tip
That’s exactly what TikTok parent company ByteDance is trying to figure out with the rise of BookTok, a community-driven trend that connects users through books, authors, and literary conversations. In response to the strong community, ByteDance is opening up their own publishing company to get in on the revenue they’ve brought other publishers through content.
Make It Yours: Is there a natural extension of your brand that you could tap into? Sure, you don’t want to stray too far from your mission. But say, for example, you sell a DTC product like coffee beans. Is there anything you could offer to your audience to make the experience with your product & brand even better? Maybe mugs or glasses for your coffee, that’s an obvious one. Straws for iced beverages, clips to close off unused coffee beans & keep it fresh, flavored syrups to get that cafe feel at home. Listen to your community and see how you can integrate natural solutions.
