💡 Today’s Insight 💡

🗞 TL;DR - Many marketers have said they struggle to leverage the full potential of Google’s Performance Max (PMax) advertising. Search Engine Land summarized a keynote from Andrew Lolk at SMX Advanced on optimizing PMax for eCommerce, and we’ve listed out the key takeaways for you.

💡 Insight - Here are the key ideas you need to know about Google’s PMax to take advantage of it for your eCommerce biz:

  • Performance Max is the dominant campaign type for eCommerce, with shopping ads accounting for up to 95% of spend.

  • PMax’s algorithm lags behind Meta’s in terms of ad targeting and optimization without search intent… just recognize that & accept it.

  • Make sure you include first-party data and customer lists in your basic setup, but don’t touch new custom acquisition settings unless you know what you’re doing.

  • Consider whether to separate brand and non-brand campaigns for better budget control & performance.

  • Evaluate whether to include search ads and display/video – if you’re not running dynamic search ads, it’s an easy extra revenue source. But you also can get really low visibility into search terms and dynamic search ads in PMax can be highly wasteful without exclusions.

  • Don’t overlook standard shopping campaigns! Tailor PMax campaign structures to solve specific business issues.
